I’m Tired

Summer is simmering down. The leaves are starting to fall. It’s time for me to awaken from my mid-year hibernation, but I don’t want to wake up. With everything that’s happened in the past month (the three devastating hurricanes, the bomb in London, Flooding in South East Asia, the terrorist attack in Las Vegas) it’s all just too much. I’m tired. Emotionally, physically, I’m just so freakin’ tired.

I can’t even begin to understand how the people who were personally affected by these tragedies are facing each day. All I can do to make myself feel a bit better about it all is to just donatedonatedonate. But money can’t solve everything, and it really feels like there is just so much inaction in the world, like we’re all waiting for someone else to make it better.

I’m not even blaming the rest of the world for that, because that’s how I am too. I’m waiting for Superman to save us all, but he ain’t coming, and that’s terrifying. We all have to be Superman and that is honestly even more horrifying. How am I, a weak little girl, going to save the world? I can’t fly. I don’t have heat vision. I’m not made of steel.

To escape all these feelings of inadequacy and desperation I’m reading about the Apocalypse: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Let that sink in; to escape 2017 I am reading a book about the anti-Christ. To be fair, the book isn’t all doom and gloom. It’s more British humor about avoiding the end of the world than anything. But, reading doesn’t make everything alright. Nothing feels okay right now. I know I’m not the only one. I see it all over social media and at work. There’s a air of desperation in everything we do. When did life become so draining?

Will this age of destruction ever end? Are we just spiraling closer and closer towards the end of the world? Will the doomsday clock finally hit midnight? Will we all just give up and go golfing every day instead of caring for one another and the planet?

Maybe it isn’t all so horrible, though. I mean, more tigers are being born every day. The world is still spinning, but at what cost? There are still children dying of starvation and disease in countries I can’t even name because we don’t talk about it. I drive by men and women who’ve lost it all everyday, turning a blind eye to their suffering as I try to beat traffic on my way home. Is this just how the world is? I hope not.

I hope not.

So, world can we take a break from all the horrible shite? Just for like a few weeks or heck a few centuries. Because I could sure use a nap, and maybe a piece of cake.

No travel post this week guys. I’m just not feeling up to it. I’m still posting pictures from my travels on Instagram so if you want to see those you can follow me @ littlesliceofbri.

How are you all doing? Let’s talk in the comments below. ❤️

I’d apologize for the somber post but I mean this is my blog and I started it with the purpose of writing about what I wanted to write about. so. Back to regular programming next week (hopefully).

  2. I can hardly look at the news for fear SOMETHING ELSE has happened. Lucky for me we aew in Europe and not watching television so I can be a little head-in-the-sand. But the reailty is alarming. We must all do what we can, persevere, and vote our conscience, at least in tbe US to elect some leaders who give a damn.

    1. Yes! I open up twitter/facebook in the morning and just pray it’s all memes and jokes instead of condolences… I also avoid the news. Yes we definitely need better leaders. MUCH BETTER leaders. I’m with you. Here’s hoping for the best… and voting for the best 😊

  5. In all bad there has to be some good, in some corners we can find it. For example after the earthquake in Mexico the people REALLY came together and there was new appreciation and pride and hope emerge within the community of millions of people who are self sufficient because the government is zero helpful. I think the world needs a slap in the face for all of us to come together like this, as a whole, helping and caring for each other no matter where we stand physically and emotionally.

    1. Very true. The way people are coming together in light of that is happening is inspiring and it does keep me uplifted. I just need to think more on how loving people can be rather than letting myself drown in my sorrows. So true, Mani. Thank you for reminding me ❤️

  6. I know exactly how you feel Bri! I’m saddened by everything that’s going on. All we can do is try to be kinder to each other, show more compassion and love. These things are inevitable and I feel like all we can do is try to be kind, as much as possible.

  7. I get what you mean (well I think I did). But travelling also helps doesn’t it? If time I travel, I get to see the good side of the world as well. The world isn’t all that bad. It where we look that makes it bright or dark. If you look into a room with its lights off, it must be dark but switch on the lights (i.e. change your perspective), that same room can be filled with colour.

    1. Very true, traveling and seeing the good of the world is a great way to get out of the muck! It’s just sometimes hard to get out of the dark places, yeah know.

  8. This world is a broken mess, and it is heartbreaking and draining to see all the bad stuff going on. They say focus on the positive- but then as you said we feel bad about turning a blind eye. As I read history however I don’t think people have changed. It is just as broken now as it ever has been, people are still the same. They all have their choice to do evil and they do it. Only in our day and age we have worldwide media that can tell us of all the bad stuff everyday, depressing.

I wish many times there were things I could do to stop it, something I could do to help others heal from a loss, but I am powerless. The only thing we can do is love people. Enjoy life and spread that happiness in our little part of the world. My hope is built on forgiveness and only love can heal.

Sorry for rambling on! Your posts always make me think!

    1. Thanks for your comment. I think you’re completely correct with asserting that the worldwide media does make things worse. I think the world could use a vacation 🙃
