Film is a powerful tool for inspiring creativity, and for me it goes a step further. It’s because of certain movies that I want to explore the world. To see new lands, and go on adventures like those the characters in the movies experienced. My go-to movies for travel inspiration are:Pride and Prejudice

Now, most of my travel inspiration for Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is from the 2005 movie starring Keira Knightley. I mean that scene on the moors where Darcy walks with the sunrise, his robe flowing behind him–ugh it kills me. In 2013, I achieved my Pride and Prejudice dreams with my best friend Lauren, and her family, when we visited “Pemberly” (better known as Chatsworth House) and oh my god it was so beautiful. The gardens. The hall of sculptures. My little Elizabeth Bennet heart swooned the whole day.

• The Lord of the Rings

This is an easy one. I mean, if you’ve seen The Lord of The Rings and didn’t immediately check ticket prices to New Zealand, what kind of robot are you? The scenery in The Lord of the Rings films is just beyond anything my brain could ever imagine, and thankfully it’s real, and you can visit it. Unfortunately, I have not made it to New Zealand, yet. But I will. One day. One day I will dance in the Shire, and cry because of how amazing it is. One Day.

• Star Wars

I mean, what has this space opera not inspired me to do? The main planet in the Star Wars universe that captured my wanderlust was the planet of Naboo. Specifically in Star Wars: The Attack of the Clones, when Anakin and Padme go to the house on the lake. Oh. My. Gosh. It was so beautiful. And thankfully that was a real location (and not green screen): Lake Como in Italy. Also, I LOVED Mustafar. It kind of made me fall in love with volcanoes and just that darker landscape created by lava flows. So, anywhere that has active volcanoes bubbling and churning lava, count me in. Basically, I want to have an angst palace like Darth Vader in Rogue One.

• Harry Potter

Who didn’t want to apparate to Scotland while they watched Harry Potter? Now the Harry Potter film that got my friend Lauren and I the most excited was the 6th Harry Potter film: The Half Blood Prince, specifically the Island on which they bury Dumbledore. We think we saw it when we went to Scotland in 2013, but, honestly there were so many lakes on our drive around the highlands that there’s no way to know for sure. Of course there’s also the Hogwarts express which you can ride in Scotland, but there’s nothing better than hiking through the highlands yourself.

• Hunt For the Wilder People

Now that everyone else has fallen in love with Taika Waititi because of his Marvel movie, Thor Ragnarok, it’s time for everyone to go back and fall in love with his other in my opinion even better films. Hunt for the Wilder People is one of his most recent films that is set in New Zealand. Unlike the Lord of the Rings, it showcases a different side of New Zealand: the bush; and the combination of music and cinematography just makes me ache to visit New Zealand even more.
