How to NOT Make Friends While Traveling
If there’s one thing that I’m truly horrible at, it’s making new friends. During high school, I never noticed my ineptitude because I was forced into friendships through band, and other school activities. My freshman year of college is when I first started to notice how bad at friend-making I truly was. It turns out, if you’re bad at something at home, you’re still bad at it when you travel.
What I Look for in a Travel Destination
There are lots of reasons to travel. As I explained in my post ‘A Nerd’s Guide to Travel’, I tend to think on the nerdier side when it comes to picking a travel destination. But, there’s more to my decision than just if one of my favorite movies was filmed there. The most important factors that lend to my picking a travel destination are:
How Much is Hot Chocolate in Switzerland?
Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited. The cities are a perfect blend of old and new. Riding a train through the alps is like entering into an alternate reality where everything is so shockingly blue and snow-globe-esque. The only problem is that everything in Switzerland is stupidly expensive.
How to Handle Jet-Lag
You don’t. There is no beating jet-lag. You can bargain with it, like the lesser God it is, but there is no beating jet-lag. No matter how far you run, how many energy drinks you drink, or how much sleep you get on the airplane, jet-lag will find you; and when it does, the best thing you can do is give in.
Valentine’s Day in Rome
Out of all the Holidays, Valentine’s Day is one of the few that I just don’t have any positive or negative feelings towards. I like the idea of giving out goodies to people you care about. But, I’m not here for long lines at restaurants, or being forced to profess my love by spending hundreds of dollars on elaborate, romantic things. I’d rather just throw gifts at people throughout the year when they’re not expecting them. It’s more fun that way.
During my semester abroad in Rome, I experienced quite a few Holidays in the city (Easter, St.Patrick’s Day, etc.). My favorite was Valentine’s Day.
